Elective Rotation — Academic
Syllabus & Course Objectives

  1. COURSE TITLE: ELECTIVE ROTATION
  2. COURSE/PREFIX NUMBER: PHA 419
  3. CREDIT HOURS: 3
  4. CONTACT HOURS: 172 clinical hours
  5. COURSE PREREQUISITES/COREQUISITES:   Successful completion of Year I of the PA Program and all previous rotations.
  6. COURSE DESCRIPTION:

    The academic elective rotation is a four-week experience that is designed to provide the student with an opportunity to understand the role of the physician assistant educator.

  7. COURSE OBJECTIVES: By the end of the academic rotation, the student will demonstrate
  1. Knowledge of the multiple roles a faculty member plays.
  2. An understanding of the curriculum-planning process.
  3. An understanding of the lesson-planning process.
  4. An understanding of the process of program evaluation.
  1. LECTURE/LAB/CLINICAL SCHEDULE:  Regular working hours of the institution.
  2. COURSE GUIDELINES AND EXPECTATIONS:

    Policies will be consistent with those published in the Clinical Year Manual and the College Student Handbook. The 7-point grading scale in the College Student Handbook will be used.

  3. METHOD OF EVALUATION:-
     
    Preceptor evaluation 50%
    EOR exam on Infectious Diseases 30%
    EOR quiz 10%
    Pharm Note card 10%

    No oral or written assignments in the spring or summer

     

  4. TEXTS/REFERENCE MATERIALS: Ballweg et al. Physician Assistant: A Guide to Clinical Practice, pertinent issues of Academic Medicine, and others.
