Outline of Rotations

The 13.5 months of clinical training comprise 12 one-month rotations (11 required and one elective) and a six-week preceptorship. The clinical rotations provide hands-on learning in a variety of teaching hospitals, private practices, and community and rural health clinics.

Internal Medicine 2 rotations, 1 month each
Family Practice 2 rotations, 1 month each
Women's Health 1 month
Pediatrics 1 month
Emergency Medicine 1 month
Psychiatry & Behavioral Medicine 1 month
General Orthopedics 1 month
General Surgery 1 month
Community Medicine 1 month
Elective   1 month
Clinical Concentration 6 weeks

Requirements for the Internal Medicine and Family Practice rotations may be met doing two consecutive one-month rotations at a single site or two one-month rotations at separate locations and times.

The Elective rotation may be in a clinical subject area of special interest or may be used for additional work in a required subject area as determined by the Program. The Clinical Coordinator makes the final decision for elective placement.

The Clinical Concentration Rotation, the final clinical experience as a PA student, is designed to provide you with an opportunity to refine skills in health promotion, disease prevention, diagnosis, management, and treatment of patients in a primary care setting. Ideally, it will also provide practical experience in patient care responsibilities at a site of potential employment.
