  • AGELINE is an online, bibliographic database produced by AARP that focuses on the subject of aging and middle-aged and older adults, particularly addressing the social, psychological, economic, policy, and health care aspects of aging.  AgeLine summarizes journal articles, books and chapters, research reports, dissertations, gray literature, and educational videos from many publishers and organizations. Links to some full-text.
     
  • BioMed Central is an independent publishing house that provides immediate open access to peer-reviewed biomedical research. Original research articles receive full and stringent peer review and then are made freely and permanently accessible online to ensure the rapid and efficient communication of research findings.
     
  • CDC Wonder is an online public health information system that can provide numbers and rates of sexually transmitted diseases, cancer cases, or deaths in the United States. Users can request data for any disease and demographic group by submitting ad hoc queries against available datasets from the National Center for Health Statistics.
     
  • ClinicalTrials.gov is a website from the National Institutes of Health providing current information about clinical research studies. This website regularly updates information about a trial's purpose, who may participate, locations, and phone numbers for more details.
     
  • Cochrane Library is a collection of evidence-based databases including the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, the Cochrane Controlled Clinical Trials Register, the Cochrane Review Methodology Database, and the Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effectiveness. The databases can be searched simultaneously using medical subject headings (MeSH) and text words.
     
  • HEAL is a digital library of teaching resources for health sciences education. It is designed to facilitate the sharing of a wide variety of high-quality, freely available multimedia resources that are currently located on the HEAL server and across many remote servers. HEAL also functions as a publishing venue, as authors may submit high-quality multimedia resources for review and publication within HEAL.
     
  • MedlinePlus is a website containing carefully selected links to web resources with authoritative health information for patients and consumers. This site is maintained by the National Library of Medicine which reviews existing links every six months. New links are added on a daily basis.
     
  • MedPix is a medical image database made available as a free internet resource by the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS). MedPix includes the Medical Imaging Atlas, peer-reviewed teaching files, differential diagnosis tools, patient profiles, disease topics, case conferences and more. Registration is free but not required to view images.
     
  • National Guideline Clearinghouse is a comprehensive database of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines and related documents maintained by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This public resource provides an accessible mechanism for obtaining objective, detailed information on clinical practice guidelines.
     
  • NLM Drug Information Portal (U. S. National Library of Medicine) gives the public, healthcare professionals and researchers a gateway to current, accurate and understandable drug information from the National Library of Medicine and other key government agencies.
     
  • NLM Gateway is a web-based system that permits users to search simultaneously in multiple retrieval systems, including MEDLINE, OLDMEDLINE, and MedlinePlus. This gateway allows users of NLM services to initiate searches from one web interface, providing an overall search of NLM's information resources.
     
  • Plos One is a free online journal from the Public Library of Science (PLoS) that accepts submissions from all fields of science and medicine, using a new peer-review strategy. All published articles are reviewed by an editorial board prior to publication, accepted papers posted on the journal’s website are accompanied by board members’ comments, and readers may also post remarks on a paper.
     

  • Public Health Image Database (PHIL) (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) has print quality, copyright cleared digital images illustrating all aspects of public health.
     

  • PubMed is a citation database developed by the National Library of Medicine. Users have access to over 11 million citations from MEDLINE and life sciences journals. Some search results include print availability and interlibrary loan information.

Anatomy

Gray's Anatomy 
The Bartleby.com edition of Gray’s Anatomy of the Human Body features 1,247 vibrant engravings—many in color—from the classic 1918 publication, as well as a subject index with 13,000 entries ranging from the Antrum of Highmore to the Zonule of Zinn. 

The Center for Human Simulation
A synthesis of human anatomy and computed three-dimensional imaging, resulting in a three-dimensional, high resolution database of human male and female anatomy (the Visible Human) as derived from direct analysis of anatomical specimens and radiological imaging. 

Vesalius: The Internet Resource for Surgical Education
An inexpensive subscription database that contains images, illustrations, photographs, animations, and multimedia resources in the Image Archive and Clinical Folios. An impressive feature is the "Narratives"...an ordered series of related images and animations linked by descriptive text that together explain the the key steps in a surgical procedure or the anatomy relevant to one or more surgical procedures.

Diagnostic Tests - Harvard Medical School Family Health Guide
Categories of  diagnostic test procedures include: brain and nervous system; skin, hair and nails; eyes; ears, nose and throat; bones, joints, and muscles; lungs; and many more. Each test covered explains what the test is, how to prepare, what happens as the test is performed, what risks are involved, special considerations post-test, and when to expect test results. 

Lab Tests Online
A public resource on clinical lab testing from the laboratory professionals who do the testing. This web site follows the Health on the Net (HON) Code of Conduct for medical and health web sites and provides peer reviewed, non commercial, patient-centered information. Lab Test Online is designed to provide a better understanding of the many clinical lab tests that are part of routine care as well as diagnosis and treatment of a broad range of conditions and diseases.

A comprehensive library of surgical procedures presented in easy to understand format; equipped with simple diagrams and state of the art animation--an excellent resource for patients and their families, physicians, and students. Each procedure is written by a surgeon in the given specialty of surgery.
