Tairy Adams
Hello!! My name is Tairy Adams and I am from Martinsville, VA. I am 24 years old and usually have a lot of energy! I received my BS degree in sports medicine from Radford University in 2000 and finished pre-requisites for the program here at CHS. I am a happy single girl (but looking), and have a dachshund name Dudley (I will speak of him often). I am very excited and can't wait to meet each of you. If you need any assistance, please let me know.

James Babione
Hello. My name is James Babione. My wife, Ella, and I currently live in Chesapeake, VA. I'm originally from southern California but have lived in Virginia since 1990. I'm 48 years old and have worked as a chiropractor in both California and Virginia from 1983 to 1998. When I felt the desire for a career change, I thought back over the different health care professions I had come into contact with in the past. In that analysis, the PA profession best fit my career goals and the future life plans of Ella and myself. Our hobbies include, fishing, scuba, carpentry and gardening. We currently are very active in our church and plan to participate as much as possible when relocated in Roanoke. We have been involved in this process (school) for the last year and a half. To say that we are excited and anticipatory would be an understatement. We are both looking forward to starting our new lives in Roanoke and look forward to meeting each member of the class of 2004.
Rebecca Barksdale
Hello, my name is Rebecca Barksdale. I have been living in Raleigh, NC, ever since I graduated from Meredith College in 1999. I am originally from  Danville, VA. For the past two years, I have been working at Duke University Medical Center with the Carolina's Cord Blood Bank. This is a program in which the umbilical cord blood is collected and the stem cells out of this blood are used in place of bone marrow transplantation.  In my spare time, I just like spending time with friends. I look forward to meeting all of my new classmates and pursuing our dream together.

Heather Anne Burns
Hey there PA class of 2004!! I am so happy to be brought  on board the CHS train to success! I am looking forward to meeting all of you and spending the next two years with you.

I am 27 years old and have been working toward getting into the CHS PA program for the past 8 yrs. I have been going to school part time and working full time since 1994. I recently received my A.S. degree this past spring! I have been working in the medical field for the past 10 yrs. I was a Combat Medic/ Medical Specialist in the Army National Guard for over 3 years and worked as a Dialysis Tech since 1994. I have been around the medical field all my life, since my mother is a nurse. I also have been called a medical "freek" by my fiancé Tony. I watch and read anything pertaining to the medical field. It has been my dream to help patients and improve patient care since I was in high school.

I am looking forward to moving to Roanoke from Northern VA. I have always loved the city of Roanoke and know I am going to enjoy my time I spend there. I look forward to meeting all of you in the coming weeks and spending the next two years working and learning beside all of you!

Neal M. Cabaniss
I am originally from Appomattox, VA, where my parents still reside. I retired from the US. Navy in 1995 after spending 23 years as a hospital corpsman serving on various ships and being stationed with the US. Marine Corps.. I became interested in pursuing a second career in medicine. As I traveled the world seeing how those from other nations lived and worked, I learned an important concept about people. They are generally the same everywhere and if you treat people well, they will treat you well.

I have 3 grown children and 3 granddaughters who live in Appomattox and Brookneal, Va. I live in a cabin by a creek at the foot of the mountains with my wife, Maryann. She teaches learning disabled children at Goodview Elementary in the Bedford County school system. Our pets, Precious (the inside cat), Siamese (the outside cat), and Angel (the blue parakeet) keep us entertained along with the myriad of local wildlife along the creek.

In 1995 I returned to school, graduating in 2000 from Central Virginia Community College. I am looking forward to meeting and working with each of you.

Seth Caldwell
Hello, my name is Seth Caldwell. I am originally from the small town of Covington, Virginia, but now I reside in Roanoke. I am 21 years old and have attended the College of Health Sciences for the past 3 years. I am looking forward to getting started in the program and having the opportunity to meet new people. I also had the opportunity of working at Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital as a CNA for the past 3 years. I enjoy hunting, fishing, camping, basketball, baseball, and pretty much anything else that involves the outdoors.  I looking forward to meeting everyone and hope that it is a successful year for all of us.
Melissa Cline

Go Pirates! Although I will be leaving many good friends and the sweetest boyfriend you can imagine, I am very excited about attending the College of Health Sciences. GG (my cat) and I cannot wait to move to Roanoke and meet everyone. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, exercising, animals, movies, dancing and being involved in church and community activities. Since my sophomore year in high school, it has been my dream to become a physician assistant. I cannot believe my dream is finally coming true.

Jeff Davenport
I was born in Richmond, Virginia, in 1970. I grew up in Chesterfield County, VA, and graduated from high school in 1989. I worked as an ironworker for several years before joining the Navy in 1994. I served five years as a Navy Hospital corpsman. The majority of that five years was spent with the Marines. I decided that I wanted to be a Physician Assistant while in the military. I began taking college courses to fulfill the prerequisites for PA school while in the Navy. I finished my enlistment in 1999.

Since that time, I have been working as an LPN and going to school. I am married and have one daughter. My wife's name is Monica, and my daughter's name is Emma. I met Monica while we were both in the Navy. My daughter will be nine months old when school begins. I am very excited and, I must admit, nervous about PA school. It has been a dream of mine for so long that I can hardly believe I am actually about to start this program.

Mark Davis
Hello. My name is Mark Davis. I began my college studies at Wytheville Community College where I received an AAS degree. Since then I have had two years of study in Biology at Virginia Tech before deciding to apply to the College of health Sciences PA program. My wife and I have been married for 11 years and currently reside in Galax, VA. I work at Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax as a CNA on the 2nd and 3rd med/surg floor. I am looking forward to beginning the PA program and feel very fortunate to have this opportunity. I look forward to meeting everyone in August!

Remonia Davis
Hello, Class of 2004. I'm a 41-year-old wife, mother of three small boys, and the oldest of three children. From the time I was a young girl growing up in a rural community in Central Virginia, I have wanted to work in the health field. I am looking forward to completing the health science career that I began years ago when I graduated with a BS degree in Chemistry pre-health science. As is often true in life, I veered away from medicine and caring for the sick, except for pursuing an EMT certification, volunteer work at our local hospital and free clinic, and recently my work with Hospice. Despite obtaining an MBA in 1992, I still felt the longing for a medical career, which came to a head in 1999 when my second son was born very ill and spent two weeks in Duke's NICU. I knew then that I had to make a change. I had looked at the PA program in 1986 and did so again in 1999. I am excited to be beginning to train for a new career and meeting each of you. See you in August.
