Members of the Class of 2008 in the City Council Chamber
October 6, 2006 |
JCHS's PA Student Society celebrated Physician Assistant
Week on Friday, October 6. Students
promoted the PA profession and helped community residents learn more
about health issues in the following ways:
-
To kick off PA Day, students and staff attended Roanoke City Hall, where
City Councilwoman Gwen Mason read a proclamation to declare October 6
Physician Assistant Day in the Roanoke Valley.
-
Class officer Doug Carroll and Program Director, Wilton Kennedy,
appeared on local TV, WDBJ, to discuss PA Week and the PA profession
with the station’s Health Check Reporter, Joy Sutton.
Video of that interview on WDBJ.
-
Later, students set up displays in three busy locations--Roanoke’s
downtown Market Square, Roanoke College’s student union, and outside
Kroger in Vinton. Passersby received blood pressure screening; healthful
snacks; and informational brochures about breast cancer, HPV, alcohol
awareness, nutrition, and the PA profession.
